Background
Sagarmatha Sambaad is an initiative of the Government of Nepal to host a global dialogue forum in Nepal starting from 2020. On 15 April 2019, the Government decided to launch the forum which will organize its first edition on 2-4 April 2020 on the theme of ‘Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity’. Accordingly, a permanent Steering Committee and an Organizing Committee, both headed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Mr. Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, were constituted in July 2019. A multi-stakeholder national consultation was held on 18 September 2019 with a view to collecting feedback, suggestions and ideas on the overall aspect of the Sambaad itself, and also to gather inputs on the theme of the first Sambaad.
The Sambaad was established in 2019 as a permanent global forum is headquartered in Kathmandu. The first edition of the Sambaad was initially scheduled for April 2020 which was postponed due to the global outbreak of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Government of Nepal will host the first Sagarmatha Sambaad in Kathmandu from 16 to 18 May 2025 on ‘Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity.’
